Parenting Scare

Well I had about the most scariest thing (so far) happen tonight, within the parenting zone.
We were eating some fruit Mentos lollies and we gave my son a few, the first 2 he was fine with. The third one though, I said to him "This is the last one OK?" So he walks off but next thing I know he is back again and starts choking on it!! I didnt even need time to think, I grabbed him and bent him over and remembering my first aid training from many years ago, gave him a sharp thud on the back with the heel of my hand. I had thought it helped because he had stopped making the noise so I stood him up but then he started choking again. I repeated it and then Matt checked to see if it was still there. I tried a few more times and just as I was turning him around to try a different way (and use my dominant hand) I saw it fly out of him mouth. Just in that instant I think Matt started to panic (even more so) and stood and said "No, we need to call..." However I cut him off and told him it was on the floor. He swoops down and picks it up. My poor darling had also thrown up at the time it came out and me and daddy had both copped a share in it.

It really makes you think a situation like that. I took him for a shower to clean him up and calm him down and I just couldnt let go of him! I just wanted to hold and kiss him! I felt so horrid as I had been so grumpy today, with both boys keeping me awake all night and all that anger just disapears once something so scary happens.

Times like this Im glad Im a quick thinker in desperate situations and I dont freeze up and panic. I tell you what though, afterwards I was shaking like hell!!

Oh! I remember my first choking scare (yeh, first coz it's a regular happening? anyway..)
Muffin was about 10 months old and she'd been playing on the floor, I went to change her nappy and she started making some really funny noises. Then I realised she was choking! and remembered my mu7m had told me if they're ever choking to check the roof of their mouths with your finger so I did that and found a big clump of paper. I checked around the room and found she had been eating my junk mail! Man, did I feel bad..

It's very scary when that happens, glad your little ones ok!

Im glad everything is ok!! :) And that you had first aid training. I think all parents should have at least a basic knowledge of first aid. It really could save a childs life. <3
